Carpet Cleaning For Your Budget
Dry soil removal is the number one prevention for clean, long lasting carpet. Dry soil left in the carpet promotes wear and abrasion and prematurely shortens the life of carpeting. As a bonus, regular vacuuming will also have a positive impact on the air you breathe. As a rule of thumb, you should vacuum at least once a week with a quality vacuum cleaner. However, the more foot traffic on your carpet, the more frequently you need to vacuum. I recommend vacuuming daily in high-traffic and pet areas, twice weekly in medium-traffic areas and weekly in light-traffic areas. Second, keep the entrance walkways clean and free of debris. Preventing soil from coming in will minimize the amount of soil that will need to be removed. Third, place large walk off mats outside and inside all entrances if possible. I recommend a mat that will give you at least three or four steps to adequately do their job. This will minimize soil coming inside. Fourth, keep tile and other hard surfaces in your home clean. Cooking proteins and other household soils settle on these surfaces and track on to the carpet. These soils are sticky and cause dark traffic patterns coming onto the carpeted surface. Fifth, remove your shoes and wear warm socks or soft sole slippers on the carpet. Street shoes bring in outside contaminates and leaves a sticky residue which traps dry soil and causes premature wear and abrasion. Sixth, regularly spot cleaning with quality spotting products will keep your carpeting looking fresh between professional cleaning. A good general purpose spotting solution is a must have. Consult an IICRC (Institute of Inspection, Cleaning and Restoration Certification) certified carpet cleaning expert for recommendations. Some cleaning firms will have a complete line of professional spotting solutions that you can purchase. Finally, hire a reputable and certified carpet cleaning firm. Most carpet manufacturers recommend professional deep cleaning every 12 to 18 months. Do not be afraid to ask questions! Here are a few questions to keep in mind: "How long have you been in business?" The answer can speak volumes about a company's reputation and experience. "What formal training is required for the company's management and cleaning technicians?" A reputable company should require that employees receive training certifications. "Do you vacuum before deep cleaning the carpet?" All professional cleaners should vacuum before they deep clean the carpet. This critical first step makes a huge difference in the result.
